2026 Terrain Call for Submissions: Theme: Movement In our next issue we are seeking projects and ideas inspired by changes in position – the role landscape architecture has influencing Movement, and spaces that are shaped by Movement. Movement shapes landscapes, how people experience space, the design of systems and functions, and how environments change over time. People move - walking, cycling, commuting, gathering, migrating - tracing paths and shaping patterns of use and occupation. Water flows, winds shift, species migrate, and materials erode. Infrastructure channels movement, while design can enable, restrict, choreograph, or reimagine how movement occurs. Movement can be physical, ecological, social, or perceptual. It can be fast or slow, visible or invisible, intentional or emergent. Streetscapes, transit infrastructure, parkour and pump tracks, and universal accessibility are some conversation starters in the built environment. Ecological perspectives may include shifting plant ranges, altered migration routes, and dynamic landscapes that change over time. Social perspectives may consider grassroots social movements, or movement through a career. For the 2026 issue of Terrain, we invite reflections on Movement in all its forms and meanings. How does movement shape your work, your practice, and the landscapes you engage with?
