and, Can be endorsed by two landscape architects, one of whom has been a member of the AALA for a minimum of five (5) years
Are a Full Member in good standing of another Association of Landscape Architects (Reciprocity Class 2)
and, have completed all four parts of the LARE
and, have 3,600 hours of practical experience in the practice of landscape architecture under the supervision of a Landscape Architect-within the five (5) years immediately preceding the application.
and, can be endorsed by two landscape architects, one of whom has been a member of the AALA for a minimum of five (5) years
Are a Full Member in good standing of another Association of Landscape Architects (Transfer Class 3/4)
and, have more than 10-years experience as a Landscape Architect
and, can be endorsed by two landscape architects, one of whom has been a member of the AALA for a minimum of five (5) years
Hold a degree in Landscape Architecture from a recognized CSLA program
and, have successfully completed the AALA Internship Program as endorsed by your advisor.
Semi-Retired
Landscape Architects that are working less than half-time.
Retired Members
Landscape Architects that are no longer working
Retired members retain all right of membership, can volunteer as a professional (e.g. can stamp drawings as a volunteer/honorarium)

If you hold an accredited degree, you will be invited to apply as an Intern (Associate I);
If you do not hold an accredited degree, but you have 2 years of related experience in Landscape Architecture, you will be invited to apply as a Pre-internship; or,
If you do not hold an accredited degree and/or do not have 2 years of related experience in Landscape Architecture, you will be admitted as an Affiliate.
AALA Interns (Associate-I)
Are in the process of obtaining their Supervised Professional Practice Hours, and writing their LARE Exams, because they either,
Hold a degree in Landscape Architecture from a recognized CSLA, ASLA, Landscape Institute program, or
Have successfully completed the Pre-Internship Process.
or are in the process of completing requirements for registration as a Landscape Architect in Alberta, because they
Have a membership in good standing in a CSLA component association other than the British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects or the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects
AALA Pre-Interns (Associate-PI)
Do not hold a degree in Landscape Architecture from a recognized CSLA, ASLA, Landscape Institute program but DO have 2 years related
and, are working to complete the Pre-Internship Program.
Landscape Architectural Technology (LAT)
LAT Membership applies if you…
Hold a diploma in Landscape Architectural Technology from an accredited program and are actively engaged in the practice of landscape architectural technology

Hold a diploma in a related discipline and work in the field of Landscape Architectural Technology with a minimum of two (2) years of work experience under a landscape architect
LAT Trainee Membership applies if you…
Hold a diploma in a related discipline and work in the field of Landscape Architectural Technology
and, are gaining two (2) years of work experience under a landscape architect

Student Membership applies if you…
Are actively enrolled in studies toward a university degree in landscape architecture or a diploma in landscape architectural technology from a CSLA recognized program
Affiliate Membership Applies if you...
Do not hold a degree in landscape architecture, but are considered an ally to the profession.
This would include educators, architects, engineers, planners, other design professionals, horticulturists, ecologists, botanists, other practitioners of natural arts and sciences and government officials concerned with the use and administration of open spaces.
Inactive Members
Members not currently practicing in Alberta are able to become inactive. Generally, these members fit into two groups:
Not working in Alberta but are practicing and are registered elsewhere (I.e. BCSLA/OALA)
Temporary Leaveof Absence, who are not working due to medical, paternity, or other approved reasons. Generally a fixed term of absence.
Honourary Members
Are distinguished individuals who have been selected by the Board of Directors in recognition of outstanding community activity related to the principle or practice of Landscape Architecture; OR,
Are ex-officio members due to interprovincial agreements (i.e staff or Board members from other provinces) or strategic connection (i.e. Deans of Schools)
