Your Opportunity
Our Calgary studio is seeking a full-time, intermediate-level Landscape Architecture Technologist (LAT) to join our Planning and Landscape Architecture team. This role supports the delivery of high-quality, design-led landscape projects from early design through construction, with a balanced mix of office-based technical work and on-site field involvement.
Working closely with landscape architects, engineers, and multidisciplinary project teams, you will translate design intent into clear, accurate, and buildable documentation while contributing practical problem-solving throughout project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- This role is both office and field-oriented and supports projects across multiple phases of construction.
- Support landscape architecture projects from schematic design through construction documentation and construction administration
- Prepare design development and construction drawings, details, and coordinated drawing sets in collaboration with landscape architects
- Translate design concepts into technically sound, accurate, and buildable documentation, identifying and resolving technical issues
- Assist with conceptual design tasks, including preliminary layouts, grading concepts, material palettes, and planting strategies
- Coordinate drawings and specifications with internal teams and external consultants to ensure alignment, constructability, and quality
- Maintain organized CAD/BIM files and project records in accordance with firm standards and best practices
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, planning, architecture, environmental) to resolve design conflicts
- Support construction and maintenance administration activities, including field reviews, inspections, deficiency tracking, and contractor coordination
- Assist with quantity take-offs and support preliminary cost estimates and construction budgets
- Ensure deliverables comply with municipal standards, regulatory requirements, and client guidelines

While not required at this time, the successful candidate may be supported to grow into the following areas:
- Assist with technical reports, design narratives, and presentation materials
- Participate in project meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors to support project success
- Support project management tasks, proposals, and marketing materials
- Gain additional exposure to construction administration tasks such as progress claims, change documentation, and acceptance processes.
- Coordinate field review schedules and support team resourcing needs
- Contribute to BIM, visualization, and digital workflows, including 3D models, diagrams, or renderings
Your Capabilities & Credentials
Technical & Software Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD / Civil 3D, LandFX, Bluebeam, and standard Microsoft and Adobe software
- Strong understanding of grading, drainage, and coordination with civil servicing
- Experience preparing construction documentation, details, and coordinated drawing sets
- Working knowledge of landscape construction methods, materials, and site coordination
Professional & Collaborative Skills
- Ability to interpret design intent and translate concepts into clear, buildable drawings
- Strong communication skills and comfort participating in project coordination discussions and meetings
- Experience working in a consulting environment with multidisciplinary teams and external consultants
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines
- Strong critical thinking skills to navigate project complexities
- Eagerness to learn, adapt, and develop technical and field-based skills across project types
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required
- Office and on-site field work are both integral to this role
Assets for Future Growth
- Experience with SketchUp, Revit, Rhino, BIM360, visualization, or digital collaboration tools
- Interest in professional development and expanding technical knowledge
- Experience mentoring or supporting entry level technologists (formal or informal)
- Membership or eligibility with the Alberta Association of Landscape Architects (AALA)
Education & Experience
- Diploma in Landscape Architectural Technology or a Diploma in a related design field, with equivalent practical experience
- Minimum 6+ years of combined office and field experience
- Demonstrated experience supporting landscape architecture projects through multiple phases, from concept to construction and close-out
- Practical experience with landscape construction processes, site inspections, and field documentation
- Knowledge of Calgary Region design standards, approval processes, and plant materials appropriate for Alberta’s climate
- Certified Irrigation Designer (CID) is an asset but not required
