Calling all landscaping professionals! Are you passionate about supporting and enhancing Edmonton’s climate resilience? We have an exciting opportunity for a Landscape Site Design and Installation Lead to join our Landscaping Inspections and Compliance team. In this role, you'll play a key part in ensuring private property landscaping aligns with minimum landscaping requirements in the City’s Zoning Bylaw. You'll lead the Landscaping team’s site installation project  -collaborating with internal stakeholders and local landscaping vendors to identify, prioritize, and oversee the installation of a high volume of landscaping sites. What will you do?

  • Identify, organize and prioritize a caseload of site installation locations for installation
  • Develop technical rationales to guide decision making for landscaping plan finalization and annual site installation prioritization
  • Work closely with commercial and industrial site property owners and condominium associations regarding bylaw contraventions that exist on their sites, and site installation/landscaping plan options and decisions
  • Assess landscaping plans for quality and suitability of selected plant species against existing  site conditions
  • Modify or draft new plans where necessary that include high quality natural landscaping elements such as trees, shrubs, planting beds and ground cover
  • Drive to and from inspection sites to conduct preparatory pre-installation inspections, validate finalized landscaping plans and approaches, and conduct critical inspections required for contract performance management

 

Qualifications

:

  • Completion of a minimum two (2) year diploma with arboricultural emphasis, planning, landscaping, architectural technology, horticulture or similar fields
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in work directly related to planning, landscaping, architectural technology, landscape construction, contract/specification writing and interpretation or related experience in construction project management, horticulture, or similar fields

Skills required for success:

  • Knowledge of planning and landscaping in relation to land use planning, zoning, and development issues in a municipal context
  • Demonstrated proficiency and familiarity with drafting, reading and making decisions based on interpreting landscaping plans, construction blueprints, and real property reports
  • Ability to conduct inspections and identify vegetation and plant materials, landscaping, and hardscaping materials
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking, discretion, professionalism, and diplomacy when working through complex inspections, stakeholder management, or project management matters
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and/or modifying landscaping or construction blueprints
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct inspections and gather evidence in all weather conditions while working alone and maintaining a high standard of safety on active construction sites, or other commercial, industrial, or residential properties
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking, report writing, letter composition, stakeholder and preparation/presentation of materials to stakeholders
  • Proficiency with: Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides and familiarity with other plan drafting and management software
  • Proficiency with various mapping systems such as Google Maps, Pictometry and SLIM

Conditions of employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent); candidates must arrange their own vehicle and business auto insurance to be reimbursed for mileage according to City of Edmonton policy

Up to 1 temporary full-time position for up to 11 months

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary: $42.466 - $53.545 (Hourly)
