Landscape Architect or Landscape Designer

 

SpruceLab is seeking a new team member to work with us as a Landscape Architect or Landscape Designer as we continue to expand our firm’s portfolio across Canada. This is a critical position on the technical design team that provides landscape architectural services across a broad spectrum of landscape types and locations, working on complex projects with multidisciplinary teams. This position may  be either part-time or full-time, and a hybrid of remote work with opportunities to work at Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto, our Hamilton office, or our Edmonton office (we offer flexibility for staff to choose their preferred locations).

 

We are a small, dedicated and close-working design studio, and applicants must demonstrate evidence of being team members with  a passion for landscapes and communities. They must also be creative with strong critical thinking abilities, motivated and committed to sustainability, and have experience or an  interest in working with Indigenous Peoples. Experience with a minimum of 3 years producing landscape architectural drawings from concept phase to contract administration is required.

 

Applicants should possess  communication skills (writing, graphics), time management skills, and experience or an interest in working with a range of communities and project partners on designs. Professional education in landscape architectural technology or landscape architecture is required for this position (must have graduated). Experience drafting with Vectorworks Landmark (drawing plans, sections) is also required, however applicants with advanced experience in AutoCAD are encouraged to apply.

 

The following are tasks that will be undertaken in the position of Landscape Designer or Landscape Architect

 

· Landscape drawings will include sketches, master plans, sections, elevations, renderings, presentations for Project Team and Client review)

· Lead or support the design team with the production of landscape architecture drawing sets and specifications, from schematic design through to contract documents

· Sustainable site design (nature-based solutions, green stormwater infrastructure)

· Contract documents for tender and construction 

· Review and advise on landscape specifications for tender contract documents to confirm consistency with landscape drawings

· On-site contract administration related to landscape architectural design (site visits, site inspection reports, deficiency lists, etc.)

· Support or lead contract administration (pending experience; i.e. the delivery of landscape contract documents through to project close-out )

· Support Indigenous engagement (First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and local Indigenous communities)

· Support or lead community and stakeholder engagement (pending experience, e.g. planning and facilitating design workshops, focus groups, open houses, etc.)

· Contribute to the writing of proposals and project planning to  assist with project management

· Attending public meetings and open houses to represent SpruceLab

· Support Dbaajmowin (artist design collective) and Earth Tending (green infrastructure training program) as needed

· Contribute to business development, such as the development of marketing materials (website content, firm profile, project sheets, social media posts etc.), strategic planning, organizational systems, templates,.

· Review bids and tender websites for potential projects to support future work

· Note: Other tasks may be assigned as needed.

 

A competitive salary will be offered to the successful applicant based on experience and information shared by references. Health benefits and life insurance (costs covered by SpruceLab) are offered to staff working a minimum of 20 hours/week minimum, following a six month probation period.
