Question and Answers

After graduation, what was the first position you had? How did that shape where you are now as a Landscape Architectural Technologist?

My first position was at Stantec Consulting Ltd. where I would conduct site inspections, complete cost estimates and draft landscape plans within the Community Development department. This shaped where I am at now by showing me what it takes work in a high profile professional role.

What is something that surprised you at the start of your career? or What is something that surprises you about being a Landscape Architectural Technologist?

At the start of my career I was surprised by the scale of these municipal development projects and the fast pace of the workplace. It's a challenging yet rewarding environment.

What skills do you feel are important to have as a Landscape Architectural Technologist?

Some important skills to have as a LAT would firstly be your time management, this is crucial in being able to complete tasks diligently and on time. Secondly I would say it's important to have a good knowledge of the plant material for our local climate zone, the plants are the most important thing in a landscape plan and its helpful to know the growing conditions and aesthetic features of the plants. Third important skill to have would be the proficiency at the computer applications such as CAD, Bluebeam and Sketchup.

What are you passionate about as a Landscape Architectural Technologist?

I am passionate about municipal environments that can be improved by landscape design and development of new urban canopies and open park spaces. As well preserving our older urban canopies and open park spaces.
