International Call for Presentation - The Gardens of Peace

Dear President, Dear Members & Friends,

We need your help to inform your members about this international call for projects. Unfortunately time is very limited as the deadline is 21st April 2018…

The Gardens of Peace project consists in creating around fifteen perennial gardens in 2018 on the theme of peace in the Hauts-de-France region, in France, a hundred years after the end of  the First World War. This new memorial trail will pay tribute to the countless deaths on French soil between 1914 and 1918, and bear witness to the number and diversity of the countries involved in this conflict. The project is initiated by the Association Art & gardens – Hauts-de-France and by the French Centennial First World War Partnership Program (Mission du Centenaire).

Created by landscapers from countries who fought in Northern France, these artistic gardens will be grouped in clusters of three to four gardens, each located near Great War memorial sites and memorial tourism routes. These gardens will be created in the Spring of 2018 to be presented to the public in Summer and inaugurated in Autumn 2018, one century after the fighting of the Great War. More gardens will be created over the next couple of years

The Gardens of Peace project aims to fit seamlessly into the wider project for the economic renewal of the Hauts-de-France region. Tourism, art, culture, environment, architecture, ecosystems will all come together to ensure that, a century later, History helps the region to achieve a fully resilient posture. A posture that helps healing the horrors and pain of the past, while opening the way to a vibrant future.

Memory at work in the creations of international artists

Landscapers and architects from countries who fought on the soil of the Hauts-de-France region during World War One will be tasked with creating gardens with a strong art value. An international jury of experts, consisting of professionals in the visual arts, architecture, and garden art, will select the candidates on the basis of projects specially submitted for the Gardens of Peace project.

Many of these countries already have places of remembrance, small enclaves on French soil with mausoleums built to pay tribute to their fallen. Selected landscapers will create gardens of peace next to or near the memorial sites of their respective countries. These art places will connect the former battlefields, from Flanders to the Artois, from the Aisne to the Somme…

Where will these gardens be located ?

The production budget allocation is around 30.000 euros per garden + 8000 euros fees. All informations & call for projects here (Click on the countries to download the PDF version of each Call for proposal) > http://centenaire.org/fr/node/9901
