The demand for landscape architects is increasing rapidly in North America and career opportunities are expanding accordingly. In the private sector, landscape architects own or are employed in consulting, multi-disciplinary and design-build firms. A growing number of landscape architects are employed by resource-based industries, including forestry and aggregate resource management. The public sector employs landscape architects at the federal, provincial, regional and municipal levels where they provide expertise within parks and recreation, engineering, transportation, community development, and planning departments. Landscape architects are also employed by universities and colleges as professors, researchers and administrators.
