NAIT Main Campus Hockey Rink, Edmonton

2:30pm – 4:00pm. Landscape Students vs. Staff, AALA & Alumni.

The NAIT LAT students are challenging the LAT staff, alumni, and AALA members to another game this year. Last year the long-in-the-tooth staff and grads lost to the students in a close 9-7 game.This year the proper order of things must be restored so let’s get out the smelly gear and beat those whipper-snippers into submission. If you don’t play, come and cheer. A student fundraiser social will follow the event. Parking for players will be provided at the Engineering Technologies Annex building. Bringing together industry professionals from across North America to the Vancouver Convention Centre for a trade show, education seminars, an award show and tours of green roofs.

From November 30 – December 3, 2010, Green Roofs for Healthy will be co-hosting the 8th Annual CitiesAlive Green Roof and Wall Conference in Vancouver, BC. It is going to bring together industry professionals from across North America to the Vancouver Convention Centre for a trade show, education seminars, an award show and tours of green roofs.

In 2009, the green roof industry grew by an amazing 16 per cent across North America, despite the downturn in the economy. 2010 is already shaping up to be much better! Scales of Nature – From Urban Landscapes to Alpine Gardens

Based on our understanding today, landscapes are characterised by the multifaceted interaction of different layers. On the one hand ancient, natural landscapes are coming under pressure. Due to our changing recreational and leisure needs, they are being reshaped, usurped and converted in either a subtle or even volatile transformation process. On the other hand, artificial areas of nature are being created by humans in urban environments, permeated by different topologies, criteria and gradations. Bearing the name “Scales of Nature”, the 48th IFLA World Congress in Zurich is devoted to the fluctuating range of topics between artificial and grown nature and to the sustainable development of the landscape for a more enhanced quality of life.

While the first day is all about urban landscapes, the second day of the Congress deals with the peri-urban phenomenon in urban agglomerations and the third day concerns specific issues relating to rural land and its changes.

Aim of the Congress

At the forefront will be the debate on the general concept of landscape, which will encompass all facets of the environment and the interaction between man, nature and landscape. In particular, the organizers will strive to have an inspiring exchange between landscape architects working in research, planning and design.

M.A.D.E. in Edmonton is celebrating our 10th anniversary with ten days of inspiring design events.
Edmonton Design Exposed (EDE): How a Decade is M.A.D.E. will be held October 14-23, 2010 at various downtown Edmonton venues.

To kick-off Edmonton Design Exposed (EDE), we will be hosting an opening reception and lecture with a M.A.D.E. retrospective exhibit at the AGA on October 14th. The following week at the Art Gallery of Alberta, we will be hosting 4 more lectures focused in the fields of graphic and digital design and architecture. Two film screenings will be presented at the Metro cinema on October 19th and 22nd. Industrial design exhibits will be held on October 15th and 22nd. Many other events are also sprinkled in between. Of course, no anniversary celebration is complete without a closing party on October 23.

2011 LACF Grant Program

The Landscape Architecture Canada Foundation (LACF) is pleased to announce its 2011 grants program. This year, grants varying from $2000 for graduate students and up to $10,000 for professionals are available for research, communication and scholarship activities. Proposals will be evaluated based on criteria set forth by the LACF Board. Submissions must be received no later than, Friday, November 19th, 2010.

Over the past fifteen years, LACF has funded a wide range of projects including habitat design guidelines, historic research and documentation, oral histories, professional education programs, design research, and environmental education and communication projects.

Funding to support the LACF grants program has been made possible through the generous donations of the CSLA College of Fellows, CSLA component associations, individual and group donors, and through bequests to the Foundation.
