POARA

The AALA is currently in discussion with Alberta Human Resources and Employment (AHRE) on the matter of registration of our profession under the Professional and Occupational Associations Registration Act (POARA). POARA registration will be the beginning of a legislative process that will evolve as our profession matures and as the Alberta government moves forward with its governance agenda which increasingly relies on Professional Regulatory Organizations (PRO). The AALA has been working with AHRE since 2005 and we have received the first draft of the proposed ‘Landscape Architecture Regulation’, from Legislative Services and the Deputy POARA Registrar. The AALA, as a publicly accountable organization under POARA, will regulate the profession of Landscape Architecture in Alberta and protect the public’s interest by ensuring a consistent, high level of professional practice from its membership.
