AALA Executive Council

President: Jim Laidlaw
The President is the chief executive officer and a voting member of the Executive Council serving a one-year term. The President establishes the mandate for the year and provides direction for the Executive Council.

Past President: Rob Marchak
The Past President is an experienced advisor to the Executive Council and has a vote on the Executive council. The Past President serves for one year and often undertakes special projects on behalf of the Association.

President Elect: Peter Alexander
The President-Elect is elected by the general membership of the A.A.L.A. each year and succeeds to the Presidency upon completion of the President’s term of office at the subsequent Annual Meeting. The President-Elect has a vote on the Executive Council and is also responsible for the Newsletter.

Registrar: Mark Nolan
The office of the Registrar of the A.A.L.A. represents a two-year term as a voting member of Council. This individual is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date records on our membership and assisting with the internship program

Secretary: Mike Beresnak
The duties of the Secretary: maintaining the smooth flow of information within the Association and ensuring timely execution of Association business is undertaken by an outside management consultant . The Registrar shall act as the Secretary in times when a member of the management company is not available.

The Treasurer: Brian Charanduk
The office of Treasurer in the A.A.L.A. represents a two-year term as a voting member of the Council and carries with it the responsibility of keeping the Association in good financial condition. The Treasurer is required to work closely with the President and Secretary in keeping records up-to-date. Prerequisites for this position should include some understanding of bookkeeping, budgeting and commercial dealings with banks.

The Directors: Peter Spearey (North), Rick Gendron (South)
As outlined in the Association Bylaws, two directors are included on the Executive Council. To ensure balance and continuity of Association programs in both Edmonton and Calgary, one director should be elected from each city for a two year term on alternating years.

CSLA Representative: Carol Craig
The CSLA Representative is elected by the general membership of the AALA for a two year term and has one vote on Council. The CSLA Representative acts as the conduit for the exchange of information between the CSLA and the AALA.

Landscape Architectural Technologist: Chris Shukuda (South), Claudette Kozak (North)
The Landscape Architectural Technologist represents a voting position on the Executive Council of the AALA for a two-year term. This individual is responsible for communicating to and from the Executive, the Committee Chairs, Landscape Architectural Technology students, and the General Membership, through reports to the Executive and the Newsletter.
